'Kammback' or 'Kamm-tail' cars have smooth contours and a sloping roofline that ends abruptly after the boot.

The streamlined design improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle by reducing drag. The term is named after its inventor, Wunibald Kamm, who was a German aerodynamicist.

BODY-ON-FRAME CONSTRUCTION
When the body of an automobile is mounted separately on a ladder-type chassis that supports its drivetrain, it is said to have a body-on-frame construction. The method was derived from horse carriages and is still preferred for heavy-duty vehicles and even some SUVs.

BAFFLE
A baffle is an enclosed chamber in the exhaust system of a car that uses metal plates to channel the flow of exhaust gases.  It reduces the exhaust noise by absorption and reflection and also improves the car's performance. The number of plates and their layout play a crucial role in the efficiency of the baffle.

BENCH SEATS
Seats meant for more than one passenger are called bench seats. They do not have contours for an individual passenger and usually occupy one entire row of in a car cabin. The rear seats of a car generally have a bench.

CERAMIC BRAKE DISCS
Ceramic disc rotors are used to make brakes for high-performance cars. These rotors are primarily preferred for their light weight. Ceramic does not heat up very fast and has a high coefficient of friction. The disc rotors are further reinforced with other composites like carbon-fibre or silicon.

TRANSPONDER
Transponder is a wireless communication, monitoring or control device that picks up and responds to an incoming signal automatically. The term is a mixture of the words 'transmitter' and 'responder'. In motor sport, transponders are used to record the accurate lap time of a vehicle. They are either mounted at the same place on all participating vehicles or on the racer himself.

RAIN-SENSING WIPERS
Rain-sensing wipers use infra-red sensors mounted on the front windscreen of a car. The sensors detect water on the glass and actuate the wipers automatically. The sensors also calculate the frequency of the rain drops on the glass and adjust the speed of the wipers accordingly.

DEFOGGER
A defogger, demister or defroster is the system that clears condensed air, mist or snow from the windscreens of a car. A blast of dehumidified air is used to clear the front windscreen while resistive conductors are used on the rear glass. These conductors heat up when a current is passed through them, which clears the glass as a result.

DIRECT GASOLINE-INJECTION
In direct gasoline-injection engines, the air-fuel mixture is formed directly in the combustion chamber. During the intake stroke, only combustion air is drawn in through the open intake valve, the fuel being injected at high pressure into the combustion chamber by special injectors. The precise metering, preparation and distribution of the intake air and the injected fuel for every combustion stroke lead to low fuel-consumption figures and thus also reduce CO2 output.

The high-pressure circuit of the direct gasoline injection is fed by a high-pressure pump compressing fuel to the required high pressure level of 20 Mpa in the fuel rail. The injectors attached to the fuel rail meter and atomize the fuel extremely fast and under high pressure in order to achieve the best possible mixture formation directly in the combustion chamber.
